Triple J Hottest 100

More lists aye? Well this is a fun Australian-wide radio voting system so it’s a little different to the “top of 2010” round-up.
Keeping in mind the “listenership” of Triple J, I usually vote with a little more thought as to what will already end up in the hottest 100 (rather than throwing my vote away on something obscure). This makes it easier to vote for only ten songs (the applied limit) in the sea of stuff I’ve been loving all year.
Massive Attack – Paradise Circus
Bag Raiders – Way Back Home
Crystal Castles – Celestica
Duck Sauce – Barbara Streisand
Groove Armada – Paper Romance
The John Steel Singers – Overpass
Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime
Kimbra – Settle Down
Kanye West – Runaway
The Jezabels – Mace Spray
What are your votes? And what do you think will end up in the top ten? Last year Mumford and Sons’ song Little Lion Man took the number 1 spot… Which was a strange surprise. I hate that song a fair lot.
I approve of most of your choices… well, you already know what I think about Duck Sauce. 😛
I’m still yet to vote… have a list of 10, but am just sitting on it for a few more days to make sure it feels right.
Great list mate, I really like teenage crime – what a tune!
“I usually vote with a little more thought as to what will already end up in the hottest 100 (rather than throwing my vote away on something obscure).” Fundamentally the wrong way to vote. If everyone voted for songs that were truly most dear to them in 2010, we’d have a much more colourful countdown. I tend to do the opposite to you, I choose the personal gems that I will always remember 2010 for regardless of whether Triple J even played them or not. For example, this year I voted for Gossling – Paper Boat, and the year prior I voted for Gomez and Jamie Cullum. Good luck getting those into the charts. But at least they were counted and will forever remain in the statistical vault.
I guess if you have no trouble picking the top ten personal gems I’d agree absolutely that you should vote for those!
For me it’s just a matter of liking way too many songs and needing a reason to narrow it down. I also stayed away from my top ten album artists (except for Groove Armada) because I wanted to share a bit more of my taste. And much of these songs I discovered on triple j rather than through other means.
Have I put too much thought into this???
Love Teenage Crime, Jimmy!
Jebidiah – Comet
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks
Goyte – Some body that I used to know
the top 3 are always mainstream….
By definition getting that many votes is what makes them mainstream.
I agree that Somebody will blitz it. But I think Matt Corby is going to do really well too. Check out my 2011 votes here: http://ahasbeenthatneverwas.com/2012/01/07/my-top-ten-lists-for-2011/
